New series starting on UTV Ireland on Sunday 3 April, 8PM. You can probably tell from the timeslot that this isn't going to be R-rated: it's a biography of the Durrell family based on the memoirs by Gerald Durrell, which include My Family and Other Animals. It covers the period the family spent in Corfu in the 1930s, his widowed mother (Keeley Hawes) moving them there because it was cheaper. Young Gerald developed a love of animals that led to him becoming a famous naturalist and later a zoo manager. The animals were positively normal alongside the weirdness to be found in his own family. His sister was a bit batty, while his eldest brother Lawrence was a pretentious aspiring author who actually became very successful, later.

I enjoyed the books, and I could use something a bit calmer after all the angst of The Night Manager.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Guess I was the only one watching this, then? I read the books a very long time ago, but still remember little details that they left out. The dogs, for example: they were two Beagles, a female who would wee all the time and a male who would throw up all the time... so Larry named them Widdle and Puke. To modern audiences, that would probably take more explanation than it's worth. Anyway, the sixth and last episode was nicely dramatic, and we finally had Gerry himself take centre stage for a bit. No explosions or gruesome murders, just some feel-good TV with eye candy.

It won't be on BBC anyway as its an ITV programme so maybe TV3 will have the second series!

The show's filming schedule makes any kind of airing before Spring 2017 seem quite unlikely

I received the DVD of this series as a gift at Christmas, I wasn't sure if I'd like it but I decided to give it a go after reading the positive comments on this thread.

I'm on episode four at the moment and so far I'm enjoying it. It's what I would call a 'comfort blanket' watch.
I'm not sure what Mrs. Durrell sees in Sven, I think he's a bit dull. I'm hoping she gets with Spiros.

Yep absolutely. Comfort blanket watch indeed. A bit of escapism into an innocent old world

Well, I wasn't expecting that
I wasn't keen on Sven but I wasn't expecting that twist. I feel Mrs Durrell and Spiros belong together, it could still happen I suppose!

The family are pretty dysfunctional but they're very endearing all the same. I'm looking forward to watching series two.

'The Durrells' is back tonight on ITV 1 at 8pm.
I hope Spiros and Mrs. Durrell get together during this series.

I haven't managed to remember to tune in to ITV at the right time the last two weeks but I found them on Exodus on Kodi, watched both last night. Love it so far.

Is anyone watching series 2? How are ye finding it?

I've just started watching it tonight, it feels a bit slower than the last series.
I'm not at all keen on Mrs Durrell's latest love interest
I do like Spiros ....... I'll give it another episode or two.

Loving it I have to say. Although not as much as Series 1

I watched the last episode of The Durrells tonight....boy I'm going to miss Spiros/Alexis Georgoulis ;) The third series can't come around soon enough. Has anyone seen Alexis in anything else?

I loved the last episode, it was pretty eventful ...
It was great to see something finally go right for Lesley, delivering the baby with do wonders for his self-esteem.

I'm so glad Mrs Durrell has kicked Hugh to touch, I didn't like him and his stuffy ways. I wish she would open her eyes long enough to notice how incredibly kind Spiros has been to her and her family. He bloody saved Hugh's life because he thought she was in love with him - how selfless. Maybe they'll get together in series three now that Hugh is returning to the UK.

It's on netflix now. First i'd heard about it. Not too bad.

Mrs Sleepy loves this and I can't say I'm not fond of it either. Scored major brownie points during the week by surprising her with a copy of the Corfu Trilogy to read after we'd finished the current season. :)

Any word on a 4th season? It'd surely have to be the last as the timeline is getting very close to WW2 when most of the real-life Durrell family left the island...

    Scarily so at times Zulu...

It's no wonder some posters used to think I was your evil alter-ego back in the day! ;)

The Durrells will return for a fourth series on ITV

ITV has announced that the period drama is getting a fourth series, with filming set to begin in Corfu later this year.

Keeley Hawes will return as English widow and matriarch Louisa Durrell for a new six-part series, alongside her wayward on-screen kids Lawrence (John O’Connor), Leslie (Callum Woodhouse), Margo (Daisy Watersone) and Gerald (Milo Parker).

Link contains spoilers for season 3.

There is speculation that the fourth season will be the last.
THE DURRELLS season four might be the last of the ITV series as producers have reportedly ‘axed’ it after deciding there was “nowhere left to go”.

The fourth and final season starts next Sunday 7th April on ITV at 8pm

As I posted above, it'd have to be the last season. The Second World War put an end to many Brits stay in Greece.
