Iceland, package or book separately

Iceland has been on my bucket list for years and I'm finally researching making it happen! I've looked online and it seems that I could do a 3-4 night package tour which includes flights accommodation and tours for 650-750 Euro. Just wondering has anyone done the package tour, or would it be straightforward enough to book it all separately myself? And which is more expensive? Thanks!

It all depends on what you like. Packages are great if you don't want the hassle, but they are restrictive too.

In Iceland you absolutely have to have a car or take a tour to see the main sights. A car has the advantage of allowing you to go to places bus's can't go to., but it all depends on how you feel about driving on gravel roads... yes there are tarmac roads, but some of the best sights are off the beaten track a bit. Car hire is expensive so depends on how many sharing a car. If you solo its very expensive.

Its a great country, so enjoy!
