Dublin to Brisbane

Was thinking of heading down under sometime in either August or September.

I was wondering what airlines would be best for such a trip ?

Should I fly out of London or directly to Dubai and onwards etc ?

Am I better off booking through an airline website directly or through a third party site ?

Also are there any airlines still using the 747 on this route these days ?

    Thanks.

You've three airlines that will offer you a one stop service to BNE.

    EK via DXB;
    EY via AUH; and
AC's seasonal via YVR until Oct 8th.

I don't know if AC are marketing their flight heavily as the booking from BNE are quite strong and you've have a long lay over at YVR, but may be worth considering as a stop over. But for a fast trip use either EK or EY and give Europe a miss.

Only B747s into BNE are currently: Qantas' BNE-LAX service; and, China Airlines seasonally which is probably your best bet from Europe (via AMS or FRA), but again you've got long layovers and slow flight that routes via BKK.

    Just had a quick gander.

For a two week trip in September Finnair are the cheapest at just over 900e return with a stop in Helsinki and Hong Kong

Emirates are around 940e return, one stop in Dubai

BA is around 1100e return, two stops in Heathrow and either Singapore or Hong Kong

KLM is around 1300e return on average with two stops in Amsterdam and Hong Kong or Seoul. They operate 747 combis on these routes so may be of interest

I use Momondo.ie to search for flights.

While the route through DXB or AUH is faster and only one stop, having done both that and through SIN, KUL etc, i prefer the routes through Aisa. The leg from the middle east to Australia is several hours longer than the longest leg from Europe to Aisa and believe me after 11 or so hours it really makes a difference.

Compare the prices through 3rd party sites and direct. If there's not much of a difference i'd always book direct. Sometimes if you book through a 3rd party site you might not be able to choose seats in advance of online checkin. I'm flying to MEL for 3 weeks in April with MH and so had to book through a 3rd party site as on their website they will only let you book from LHR (i'm departing from SNN).

Singapore airways london to brisbane via Singapore, or emirates dublin to brisbane via dubai will both get ya on an A380. I know ya asked 747, but ive havent travelled dublin brisbane on one yet.

I just flew dub dxb bne with Emirates. I flew business on their a380. Great seat. Wifi ($1 for 500mb). Good food. Bar at the back of the plane. Wouldn't fly with anyone else for that length of trip.

I have flown Singapore, emirates and etihad for the dublin to brisbane route. While i love the a380 and emirates offer the shortest route, i liked them least out of the three. Saying that i will probably still go with them for the next trip purely on the shortest route advantagd (they arent bad, i just found the experience with the other airlines better).

I have flown BNE - DUB quite a few times.

Try to avoid LHR if possible, CDG is not much better.

Have flown Etihad, Singapore, BA, Qantas, Royal Brunei, Malaysian, Finnair & Korean from memory, maybe some others.

The last few trips I have started to fly Business Class and have done that with Malaysian and Finnair. Both were good. Finnair uses HEL as their hub and it's very good. Transfers there are a breeze (and the lounge is something else!) I stopped over for a night in Hong Kong and then the trip into BNE was a code share with Qantas in their A330. Have some travel tips for HKG if you are stopping there.

Have yet to fly Emirates but I believe they do a one stop to BNE via DXB like Etihad do via AUH. Cutting down on stops does make the journey easier as flights all seem the same to me when over about 8 hours.

Flew with Royal Brunei a couple of times and incorporated a stop over in Brunei for a couple of days. It was a really interesting place to visit. The airline itself had great service and a really good feel about it. The only issue for some people is it's a dry flight (no alcohol service) but the food was better than most. On the downside it was a three stop flight from LHR.

I have a VERY good travel agent which I have been using for many years. She gets great deals. Often the best value fare is not the cheapest. Sometimes our fares may be a few dollars more but it's a better route, aircraft or other benefits. She is based her in Australia but can book you from anywhere. PM me if you want the contact.

Plenty still operate the B747 but off hand I am not sure which. Is there a reason for that aircraft?
