Test EGR valve with solenoid

Today I removed the EGR valve from my 07 Kia Sportage (an unmerciful pain in the hole to remove!!!).

As suspected it was covered in carbon. I've cleaned it up but would like to bench test it but I've never done this before.

There are only 2 pins on the electrical connector. Can anyone confirm I can test it by just applying 12V DC to the 2 pins? Thanks.

I connected 2 leads from the car battery to the 2 pins on the electrical connector on the EGR. Worked normally.

Now just have to put it all back together

I will take photos along the way and post a 'how to' thread for anyone else looking to remove the EGR valve.
