have a 3 ton thwaites dumper out on hire for a week.... wont start for me and the plant hire place is closed for the long weekend... called in to the yard this morning hoping it would be open as the thing quit yesterday evening....

not overly mechanically minded i must admit...

was stopped intentionally but reckon was low on fuel for sure... was stopped on a slope and wouldnt start again... put diesel in... engine is turning over but no fire...

cant for the life of me find any hand primer pump... would these machines have one?... no idea how old it is...

any tips? do i need to bleed the filter?

lad here says bleed screws missing off the side of the filter housing

If it was on a slope chances are its air locked. Or if it was low on diesel it probably pulled dirt up from the tank. Both are an easy fix. Take off the injectors one by one and prime by hand using the little lever on the lift pump until diesel squirts from them. Make sure to fill the tank up to the neck first with fresh fuel. I hire diggers and dumpers regularly and will never let the tank go below 1/4. When you have everything back together make sure to give the engine a good long preheat before attempting to start. Oh and the battery could be weak from all the trying so maybe hook it up with jump leads to a van or a car just to give it an extra boost

Is there not a primer lever on a lift pump? Ours have one on a lister 2 cylinder air cooled diesel engine.Loosen any unions along the lines, then use the primer until fuel pours out and If you can get to the injector pipes as mentioned earlier, then loosen them off while turning over.I'd say its air alright.
