Hi Victor I'm getting over the amount that'd is exempt.. has it changed now that it only kicks in once you've earned that much in the year and then they'll start charging? Just strange I remember a few years ago when I was working part time it was just taken and then if you where under the amount you claimed it back at the end of the year...

check with your payroll office first and see if they got a new certificate of taxes/credits that might have put you as USC exempt. Revenue a call and see if you have been put as USC exempt in error.

Hey so I got my usc sorted after starting this thread rang revenue and they had me down as USC exempt by accident.. since then they have put me on week 1 basis tax until.the end of the year so I wouldn't get hit with usc all at once for the 4 months... will I now have to pay a big refund still in one big go when I get my p60 at the end of the year for the 4 months usc I missed at the start of the year? Or can I pay it back in installments or something like that...

You can ask them to code any underpayment against your tax credits for 2017 so it will be spread over the 52 weeks.

Also, if you have any health expenses to claim for 2016 any refund due for this can be offset against the underpayment.
