Best Bull for LMX Cows

Hi, we have mostly LMX cows on our farm with a few BB, CH and AA, last 3 bulls have been LM so all replacements are LMX. Was reading up on hybrid vigour and decided it would be a good time to change tact. What would be a good cross for LMX cows, was things Blonde or Parth. Would mostly be looking for a terminal bull but a balanced animal we could keep replacements off would be nice. The reason we have always had a LM is as we keep a few purebreds and leave them with the bull after AI. With the change we will just have to keep a better eye on repeats.
My main question is it worth changing for the sake of changing. Is hybrid vigour important?

The simple answer is try a few blonde and parthenaise straws and see Ho you get on

I would go parthenaise or blonde, both would be easy calving on your lmx cow. I have a 5 year old parthenaise bull for sale if your intrested

Maybe try a few maternal aubrac as well for replacements. Bit smaller than parthas, similar breed though. What market are you aiming for? Hybrid vigour can give you 10-15% depending on the cross.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Would be looking to finish bulls at 16 months and heifers as 2 yr olds. So would like something stylish

Wouldn't fancy Blues, be very weary of them for calving

Blues are a lot easier calved than you think, most issues are with some CH breeding in the cow and it brings bone with the muscle.
I'd say blue, most blues we sell are killed at/before 16 months with KO's of 400+ kg.

If I was to choose any I'd go for parthenaise

    Do they make good cows?

How did the parthenaise bull go for you?

when we kept back lim cows we crossed a blue on them and had super coloured selling calves and purchased in black lim replacements from two dairy herds.
the aubrac bring a black nose which is not a good seller.

depends on the dam but they would have as much milk as a limo IMO.

OP wants them for finishing at 16months so that would be my main reason for suggesting them. Black nose doesnt matter a damn if you finish yourself

You can stick nearly anything on a good limo cow, ive tried the blondes and wouldnt be an overly big fan unless you have a thick butty cow. you just wont go far wrong with a decent charolais bull, but i reckon blues should be a good option next year. i know they are out of fashion at the moment (compared to what they were) but another year or so and id say theyll be back and it'd be great to be that bit ahead of the game. (or i could be completly wrong). I dont know enough about parts but theres no point in saying the colour wont put a few off.

    Charolais I'd be thinking aswell.

    What about Simmental?
There's a few good bulls out there, easy calved, easy fleshed, Bulls can be killed U16 months & surplus heifers for breeding sales.
Plus from LMX dams, they should have good colour

Was at a farm walk before where the farmer moved away from parthenaise bulls because the bulls were killing out to high for factory specs

    Better living everyone

We breed some serious Ch X Lim. A good Lim cow will breed a smashing Charolais.

Do you mean they were killing out too heavy?

Heifer? I wouldnt personally. There are easy calving parthenaise out there but none priced for the comercial breeder.

I'm very conservitive when it comes to calving heifers though

Very happy with him, have some nice heifers kept off him for replacements and produced excellent male stock too. Have another parthenaise bull bought to replace him.
