    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Looking for a new toy and the TT has made it to the top of my list

Budget is very limited, about €2k. Preferably a good bit less but willing to go a little bit more for a mint one that ticks all my boxes

Must be 4WD, prefer 225BHP but I'd be fine with the 180BHP models. Would love the Bose stereo. Don't care about heated seats or even leather seats

Service history. Yes please. Timing belt. If there is no proof of it being done recently, I'm not interested and / or €300 needs to be deducted off the asking price for that alone

NCT. Must have (long) NCT, preferably until 2017. Anyway seller must be happy to drive the car over to my mechanic who will inspect the car vigorously (on the lift)

Please help me find my next car. Will be grateful to anyone who helps :)

Its abit irish saying you will be instantly knocking 300 if it needs a belt. A genuine well minded TT could be very well priced at 2.5k even with the understanding that a belt change was due.
Cheap TT is not the way to go. Get a good one and it can be cheap to own. Get a bad one and it can be mad expensive. I owned a 180 bhp quattro a few years back. Great car that cost me nothing.

I hear what you're saying, Mick, but I am at the opposite side of buying that you are used to. You are Irish and you buy Audis brand new paying what, €50k?

I'm not Irish and I'd like to buy cars in nearly new condition for about €1k or €2k. Cheap cars are my way of life. And for sure the way for me to go.

Price is a bit strong but you are a good haggler I trust. Dealer sale for whatever meager comeback that may offer.

Only 3 owners and looks tidy. Promise of a recent full service, timing belt kit, 4 new tyres and wheel bearings.

I'd be trying to aim for something like this tbh, if you could take it for €23-2400 or so, seeing as it actually isn't taxed and the test is only 4 months away yet it has a rake of recent work. I'd say in the long run it'd be a better financial proposition that an example with 12 months test and no recent maintenance carried out. You could spunk €750+ on general maintenance on one of these in a heartbeat.

Also for the budget conscious this one only has 16" wheels which will make tyres considerably cheaper if neccessary again. A lot of TT's seem to be on nasty 18's or 19's which have obscene tyre prices by comparison.

It's not a 225 which might be a deal breaker. I know every time I drive the Celica (aside from wishing I bought a TT) I thank myself for holding out for a 190 even though I rarely drive it on. If you buy a 180, will you spend every drive wishing you got a 225, seeing as tax is the same, purchase prices are indistinguishable and fuel economy is as near as makes no difference?

I didn't mean that an old TT is not a good plan, just to be sure to get a properly looked after one even if it costs alittle more.
Even the main dealer here wasn't servicing the rear diff at all from new - I ordered up the cartridge of oil from audi for my TT years back. They certainly had none in stock and when service manager heard what I was looking for, he basically said have you a leak or something. It's not a service item!

Would you consider sourcing from UK? I sourced a 10 year old Golf GTI a good few years ago. Even though I didn't save an enormous amount of money I got a better minded car with fully documented service history....

Car from the UK is likely to be better minded alright, but it's more expensive to buy and then I'd have to pay VRT (minimum €720) and then the car needs to be NCTd (it might very well fail on something)

Importing would not be a wise option.
