Decking boards for Side Gate

    Good idea or not, say 25 or 28mm thickness. By the times you add cross battens it would be a ton weight I guess.

    They look well if you put them inside an angle iron frame. Leave room for the boards to expand.

    Yes I done exactly that a while ago for a side gate. 3ft wide.
    You're right though it was very heavy. I had to use heavy duty Strap Hinges to carry it.
    As Dublin Dilbert said they do look well framed in angle iron and you can then use welded on hinges, like what would be used on gates.

    How long would pressure treated decking boards last outside if used off the self with no other treatment or maintenance.

    Would you get 5yrs out of them before they rot away.

    10 years easily if the gate is constructed right, but you will need to treat the cut ends.

    Thanks for quick reply, I got side gate sorted but not using decking.

    Have a space behind shed and a wall 10'w x 5'h that I just want to bang up a bit of a fence and happy to get a few years out of it, with no worries or maintenance as past my sell by date:D

    Decking boards would do fine and their strong and can pick a few up at reasonable price at this time or year.
