    Hi All,

Just looking for a bit of advise on an intiniary during my stay. I'll be flying into Joburg mid October and out of Durban all in gives me 5 nights. I would like to visit Cape Town and internal travel looks cheap. Also looking at doing a 1/2 night safari. Could I do this in Durban or what would you recommend. Thanks!

I think you would need 2/3 days in cape town at least. Its a really nice place. Jo'burg not so nice but still things to do regarding the history of the place etc. As for safari, we spent two nights in the national park, around two hours drive away. Pilansberg I think it was called. Can camp and self drive or axcomadation and guided day tours. There is lion park an hour outside Jo'burg. IMO 5 days is too little to cram it all in.
For flights try mango or kulula. We flew jo-cape with mango cheap enough and at last minute. Its a two hour flight.

Thanks for replying. I agree 5 days is too short to cram it all in. I was thinking of not spending any time in Jo'burg. I don't know awhole lot about Durban tbh. Was thinking of doing 3 nights in CT and then fly onto Durban for the final 2 nights and do a safari there.

Look up Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Long established park. It's in Natal, but Ican't remember how far from Durban. White rhino protection is a feature of a few Natal parks.

Dont mean to hijack your thread but has anyone any suggestions on other things to do. I will be flying into Jo'burg and have three weeks in SA altogether. I'm planning a few days in cape town again but looking for other stuff to do. I've already done lion park etc and camped in pilansberg national park last time so anything different. Don't mind taking an internal flight or two.

The battlefields tour out of Durban,ie; Roarkes Drift and Isandlewana, make a two day trip and add in Spion Kop as well. You could also try The Garden route, down around Port Elizebeth in the south.

Paragliding off Signal Hill in Cape Town. You will travel right over the city. 100% recommended.
Costs about €110 including a video and pictures of the flight handed to you on a memory card.
Much cheaper than most places in Europe and can't complain about the scenery either.
Actually, R1200 now works out to €70 so it's even better value. You may want to do it again!

Also did the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. Got a great last minute deal at Lalibela Game Reserve for 2 nights. Was heavily discounted due to not many reservations for the time we were there (Feb). All meals and drinks catered for; 2 game drives per day - early morning and evening.

    Was a fantastic experience.

    Also slightly hijacking the thread.

Tentative plans to go South Africa for 6-10 days.
Thinking Cape town as I wanna do the shark cage diving there and also the paragliding looks fun.
Also thinking about a safari, something short like 2 days but dunno where, would it be better to fly to Johannesburg from cape town and work something from there?

we did south Africa many years ago for 3 nights, flew into johburg and safari from kruger, then down to Durban, next onto garden route which was amazing and we drove to capetown.

So my recommendation for you would be stick to cape town and garden route, the shark diving which we did goes from town right beside hermanus, Hermanus is amazing and well worth 2 nights, whale watching etc. if you wanted a safari you can drive to the end of the garden route, maybe ots port Elizabeth, there is a game reserve here, I put my father in law in tough with who sorted our holiday and he went to this reserve and just capetown, said was amazing.

any questions give me a shout.

I was wondering would anyone care to comment on the following plan for a last day of 3 weeks in South Africa.

Fly into Johannesberg on Sunday night. Stay overnight in a hotel at airport, leave baggage at hotel and spend monday touring JNB (red bus?) and fly out late that night back to dublin.

Would I get to see much or is a waste of time?

I am flying into Cape Town and doing Garden Route for first three weeks.
