Extension related query

    Looking at options to enlarge the house.
    Best option would be to add a bedroom and en suite downstairs to the rear of the house for an elderly relative. The problem is, the only way I can see to do this would result in the living room having no natural light, ie no windows to the outside.
    Practicalities aside, is this legal? Are there other requirements to fulfill? Ventilation?
    Are you allowed to add internal walls to kinda reconfigure your current house layout? (not remove any walls that are currently in it though)
    It is just an idea we are playing around with at the moment, and before we go down the rabbit hole too deep we want to find out what are our options.

    how about doing a Dermot bannon and putting in a glass box or a small glass courtyard
