What heating system do I have?

I live in an old-ish apartment block, with what I believe is a back-boiler gas fire. We use the system to heat radiator in the apartment, using gas from the mains, and don't use it as a fire. The system recently stopped lighting/sparking, meaning we have no heat. Our gas supplier has told us to contact a plumber, yet most plumbers appear to steer clear of these types of set-ups. One mentioned to me that this is a very old system, and that he would only be able to replace, rather than fix.

Can anyone tell me what exactly the system is (from the pictures), and what type of plumber/engineer would be in a position to help?

Any information at all would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Looks like you have a Potterton Houseworker BBU (back boiler unit)
Limited parts available for these now (PCBs no longer available)

If you post your area, someone here maybe able to help you.

Just in case, did you try the reset button (on the button left had side of the fire place, near the slider)

I can't thank you enough! It's back working.

Knowing it was a Potterton Housewarmer meant I could find the manual online, and establish how to re-light the boiler. I also hadn't a notion that there was a slider & reset button on the side before you mentioned it. All it needed (more or less) was to be reset, as you suggested.

You've genuinely saved me a lot of time, hassle, money etc., so thanks again!

Make sure with this appliance you have correct ventilation and always fit a CO alarm in the room,
    these appliances require regular servicing
