Hey guys I'm in leaving cert and I've just had a bit of a bombshell dropped on me that my parents want to move to back to our hometown Glasgow after I'm finished with my exams. Obviously it's too late for me to apply to ucas. I don't know how easy it is to get into college with the leaving cert there. My mum said I could resit my highers (equivalent of the leaving cert there) there and then apply for college. Does anyone have any advice for me? I had already applied for college here but I want to be with my family I don't want to stay in Ireland by myself! Uneeded stress when I have my orals coming up honestly :/

You won't be by yourself. There's millions of us here!

Glasgow's only a Ryanair flight away. Do you really want to put your life on hold for a year? Have you considered the possibility of doing a year here, and then transferring to a course in Scotland?

Off-topic.... That was a little inconsiderate of your folks, to not let you know a month or so ago when you could have applied to UCAS.

What course do you want to do? UCAS run a clearing system in August for vacant course places. Check with the individual colleges to see if they could possibly have vacancies in August and course requirements.

Honestly I was born there and all of my relatives live there so it is my preffered place to live and I would be much happier being with my family. Also I could live with my family for free and college is free there which makes it a much cheaper option for my parents. I'm not even sure they could afford for me to attend college here with accommodation and everything! I just don't know how to go about college and stuff :/ I was considering doing a plc here in social care studies if I didn't get the points I needed and then applying for that in college. And I don't know how any of this will work in Glasgow!

Here in Ireland I was hoping to do social care studies :/ I might look into that but then I have no idea what the entry requirements for something like that would be in the uk. It could be much more than I'm capable of.

You don't know until you investigate the courses. I hope you get the one you want in the UK. Good luck with your exams. Try to focus on them too. :)
