Given the noise and stupid cost of the vacuums I won't hold my breath for this one.

Dyson hoovers are brilliant ! I just hope their battery venture delivers. That's a lot of tax payers cash !

....and let hope it comes with a car "Hoover".

I hope that they build them better than their hoovers and washing machines.

I'll never buy another Dyson, what a rip off.

I think their hoovers are fantastic, have a mains powered animal and battery powered Animal and they're fantastic, the battery hoover gets used by far the most. I think they are worth the money , absolutely.

One of the supposed selling points of a Dyson is that it is bagless.

Open it up with a screwdriver and low and behold, there are two filters in there. They slowly block up and that's the end of it.

    No don't think so.

You can clean the filters. It says to do so in the manual.

Also a dyson is bagless, you are complaining that it has filters but filters != bags.

I've no filters in my dyson vacuum cleaner and I don't find it noisy compared to my old vacuum cleaner. I have a Hoover too.... It's a tumble dryer!

I wouldn't hold my breath. The car industry is notoriously hard to break into and Dyson is a high end small appliances company, without any experience of large scale automotive manufacturing.

There's a huge amount of tooling up involved in the car industry. Everything they make at the moment is basically a derivative of the same high speed fan - vacuum cleaners, hand dryers, hair dryers, air purifiers, fans..

I'd strongly suspect that the big moves in EV will come from the traditional manufacturers.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Tesla ultimately gets bought by one of them when the hype dies down and the price is right

    Dyson are Hoover??

@Anteayer You'd be surprised. Look at the industry experience the Tesla founders have and think of the contacts and brand Dyson have built up over the years. Also they have the advantage of other companies having done the development work ahead of them so you can avoid issues many took time to resolve.

    OK pedantic Pat
I'm sure you're well aware many people refer to a vacuum cleaner as a hoover even if it is a different brand.

I know far too many people who refer to their Landrover Discovery/Toyota Landcruiser/etc as a Jeep......I still to this day can not figure out why someone who drives a Toyota would claim that it's a different make.

Sure I may as well call my Ford car an Opel as it makes just as much sense.

My tumble drier is made by Hoover. Can I call it a Hoover?

    Rant over :p

I actually think Dyson has a fair chance. He won't only be making cars and he's very profitable at what he does.

Interesting that the Sinclair C5 was made in the Hoover factory, now Dysons at it...

When Miele make an EV I'll show some interest.

Don't want to go too far off topic. Fan of Miele myself. My last C3 bought in early 2018 broke its neck though (pin fell out of head). Returned under warranty. The current one had exactly the same fault, returned in yesterday to Amazon. Ordered a slightly newer one last night. Simply design fault, but Amazon don't repair it or send out a part, so it required for the whole unit to be replaced. That's 3 supposedly top of the range vacuum cleaners I got in just over one year.

No car has ever been that bad...

I would imagine you have done the same yourself i.e. use terms which are actually brands. Aspirin, escalator , zipper, Sellotape, post-its, jet-ski
