Hi folks, so, this might seem like a silly Q, but how does one know whether the main story in a TV series is continued through out the series or just for each episode? eg: The Affair - the same story throughout.. The Good Wife: same characters story - as in personal life - but a different legal story for each episode (started watching this and ditched it when I reaslised so). Looking for a law style TV series but I would prefer if the legal story was carried out through... oh and a show that has good characters too..

    thanks in advance

You could go to imdb or wikipedia to read up the episode synopsis.

Most shows that are 20+ episodes per season have a lot of case of the week episodes.
There are shows out there that may suit what you want, like Damages. Think Murder in the First is one as well but it may be more police work, like The Wire.
Murder One is another that I seem to remember being one trial over one season.

thanks - you would imagine that there would be a simpler way to know.. but I get it.. I watched Suits last night - just one episode - not sure if it is a continued legal story or not,,. but I like the main character...

I'm seen Damages - will look into it..

Search for the show name and the word 'procedural' maybe?

(Then avoid it if it matches)
