So, I've once more failed to conquer this, having lasted from New Year's Day until the past two weeks. I'm some 35kg overweight and the guilt, shame, sense of failure and lack of energy are back. This is the only thing I still haven't got on top of in my life. I've achieved all my long-term goals in life, including achievements of physical endurance. I successfully gave up alcohol years ago and never have had a desire to drink again. But this overeating lark? I just cannot crack it. I'm enslaved to this incessant urge to "escape" by overindulging in private. In thinking, I'm like myself as a child 25 years ago. I know it's bad for me but I still do it.

Even before, when I lost almost 20kg, I couldn't keep on the sane, rational path and threw it all away. I felt alive, full of energy but I keep doing this stupidity. I need new thinking but I've found no help from councillors down the years. I'm tired wasting money and, more importantly, hope on changing councillors. I've heard decent things generally about CBT but I cannot find anybody who specialises in helping people like me, or whether CBT would be of use in tacking BED. I assume it's BED which I have because I fulfil each and every one of the characteristics of it on the Bodywhys website.

Does anybody know any serious professional who could help me understand what I need to understand here, and finally help me change my mentality about food? Thank you.

We don't permit referrals or encourage the promotion of specific clinicians or therapists here. I suggest you contact Bodywhys directly and they will be able to provide you with a list of experienced professionals in this area. Good luck.
