An Post Registered Mail - Can't Sign For Delivery

My mother recently sent a quite important item to me via An Post Registered post service. I am in Thailand, and I only gave her the address of my apartment block, and not the specific room I am staying in. This was because I originally wanted her to send it via DHL, and from my experience DHL will call my phone when they arrive. For some reason An Post wouldn't accept it via DHL though, so she has sent via registered post.

Having glanced at the website for An Post, it seems my item will not be delivered without my signature. But how can I sign for it when I don't know when exactly it will arrive to the apartment block I am staying in? Does anyone know what would happen in the case that my item arrives, but I'm not there to sign for it? Would the post man in Thailand likely abide by this strict rule for requiring a signature? I need this item ASAP so it would be good to know what will happen if I'm not available to sign for it. Thanks.

Not sure how postal service work in Thailand but in most countries they leave a note to collect from post office, the only problem would be that as they do now your apartment they might return to sender as they might not know where to leave that note. If not many apartments you can contact other residents in the block to let them know you are expecting something.

When item arrives in Thailand you should be able able to track it on the Thailand post, you might be able to contact them when it arrives in the country to put a note for postman with the apartment number and/or phone number to call you.

Thanks for your reply. You've guided me to a practical solution I never even thought of (probably because I was so worried about actually receiving the item). But there is a post-box outside the apartment block. I could get a Thai friend to write a short note telling whoever delivers it what room number I am staying in, while also giving my phone number. Can stick this note on the box and hopefully the post-man will read it.

If its signed for it doesnt matter, if the phone isnt on the package they'll just return it whatever local pickup point they use. Then you can go and retrieve it (with ID) by following tracing instructions.
