Need to get a skip but not sure what size I'll need. Would need to fit two 2-seater sofas in. There's other stuff to go in too but they are the bulkiest and the rest could be fit around them. Any ideas?

There's a lot of wasted space in a sofa, I'd cut it up. Also if you have a landfill/recycling centre locally that you can drive stuff to, that would be cheaper.

edit; or you could freecycle them if appropriate

No interest on free sites and there's not much to be saved in the local centre when you factor in the cost of hiring a trailer, gate fees, individual items charges for the sofas and garden waste etc.

Would be much less hassle to just get a skip for the sake of a few extra quid

Once the skip is filled do they weigh it and charge u that ontop of the hire fee or does the hire fee cover u with whatever u fill it with?laois hire quoted me €160 for small skip as I'm going to lift my old tiles throughout the house but don't want to be stung when they come to collect and charge me for dumping the load.

Genuine question. Can you just throw the sofas in the skip and set them on fire?

Well as someone who had a similar brainwave and lit a skip.(just to reduce height of rubbish a bit)...then couldn't quench it...then watched said skip loose most of its paint and go black.....then had to find a colour match for original nice yellow skip.....rub down damaged areas and repaint......I'd say bang away !!!!

Haha, fair point Needles, I'll be on to you for painting tips soon so!

Ah it was just a thought as I have a few bulky items to dispose of and one of the neighbours was burning waste in his back garden the other day.
