as the title suggests i am looking for ye'r input here please

i have existing buildings and i am looking to add another slatted house, calving & machinery shed onto the existing one i have

what i want to avoid as a much as possible is realizing in 5 years time that i made an error in the design lay out of it or if i switch my beef system from suck cows to finishing say in 10 years time that my lay out is not adaptable

i'm a believer that everyday is a school day:) and you are never finished learning

i have spent what limited free time i have over the past few months looking at other peoples set ups and seeing if any of that could be adjusted to fit into my plans and to just gather general ideas

this may come across as overthinking things but i have plenty of friends who now openly admit they got bad advice/rushed their beuildings

i have spoken with local teagasc advisors but they keep kicking me towards 1-2 fellas
the independant feedback i get on these 2 is very mixed

where would i source a planner/engineer that is at these buildings everyday and has genuine interest into how these sort of buildings should be layed out to suit my needs???

Throw up a sketch here and you should get plenty of help. Put it all together and you'll hopefully get what your looking for.

    OP,
You're dead right to plan it out. We have old sheds here and it bugs the hell outta me at times the way they're laid out. Having said that, I would be pushed to improve on them.
    Things to consider;
    - height, the higher roofs are the better. Good for animal health and machine accessibility.
    - water flow, the smallest gradient will get rain water away but the slightest dip will always hold a pool of messy water.
    - location - often seen sheds put centrally on farms just to make silage slurry easier for a few days but the farmer may be travelling back and forth numerous times every day for the normal day to day chores.
    - flexibility- easy to move a temporary gate than a solid concrete wall.

I have to put up sheds myself soon so already thinking along the same lines as yourself.

I don't know what the attrition rate with sucklers is but I would suggest machine access be easy to any point in the building in the event of a cow going down.

The Farmers Journal have a section on sheds this week, maybe worth a look and get some more names of companies for other ideas.

50HX you are right to get it all planned out. I am getting more farmers coming to me now looking sheds designed so that they work. I am in the north here so it might be to farm away for you.
