Kodi Box and Broadband

Just a quick one for anyone that might have some knowledge on this. Just moved to Cork and I'm looking at getting broadband and tv channels. I have been told about the kodi box and that it's possible to run all tv channels off this? I was wondering if anyone else has this and if so what do I need in terms of broadband strength etc?

Any help would be really appreciated as I'm pretty clueless in this department.

    Thanks,
    Donal

Think discussing access to illegal online content is frowned upon here.

fire stick runs on little broadband, 1.5 down would run it, it does for me, 2.5 down you are in dream land, its easy enough, amazon fire tv utility app is the easiest way, no pc required

I had seen a kodi box in action a while back and have to say I was far from impressed. The interface was very slow and laggy, loads of buffering video, out of sync audio and lots of updates and hassle. Much of the content would not be legal and that's where the problem lies, may work one minute and not the next and picture quality generally very poor.

We have never been in a better time than now for free legal quality tv services. Get a Free to air dish, point it to 28.2 degrees east (same signal as Sky) and get all the BBC's, ITV's, Channel 4, E4, Film 4, Channel 5 and its sister channels, Spike and countless other channels which are Free to Air.

Ease of use, position channels where you want them and does not rely on internet connection. Then for premium content add Netflix for 8 euros per month and between both services you have most stuff worth watching.

I have a 3mb line and it can generally stream ok from kodi but I wouldn't be too confident on anything less. If one of the kids was on you tube on a tablet, then I may have problems with kodi buffering, particularly live sports feeds

there has to be a simple answer for the buffering etc, either it was a cheap box, not properly set up, etc, i have usually under 2meg down and i can watch the comedy and the screamers with no lagging, google ot you tube will have answers

    .......

The difficulty with that is that no one knows what you were using as there is no specific 'Kodi box'.

    Kodi is the software.
It is open source so is available for anyone to use and change as they wish.
I believe that the Kodi people are clamping down on this misrepresentation of the Kodi name.

Heck I have Kodi running on such things as an i7 Desktop, i5 NUC, old P4 Dell, R-Pi etc.
The results vary with hardware and how I set it up.

The box in question was an MXQ box with 1GB of ram, absolute heap of junk. Also Kodi the app I wasn't much of a fan of it, difficult enough to use at times and didnt work half the time, updates failing etc and what did work the image quality wasn't exactly good.

It's so much easier and better to use a free to air dish. If you have a sony tv you dont even need a box, just stick the satellite cable into the tv and all the free to air channels download and store into the tv. The picture quality seems even better than the exact same channels running through a Sky box and it's all legal and no subscription required.

I don't want to appear to be defending the Kodi software, but again what you found wanting is not anything to do with Kodi software I suspect.
Most of the plugins in those 'irregular' releases are not Kodi approved, but are third party plugins. Third party plugins are dependent on whoever created them to ensure quality and updates.

The video quality is also dependent on the hardware and OS & drivers installed.

I use a FTA set up. I have no problems with video quality, and can view all channels on any LAN connected device in the house ..... TVs, tablets, laptops, & PCs included.
    Most of them use Kodi.
    ;)

As others have said Kodi is the software and most of the issues people experience with these boxes is down to the box itself. Kodi aren't too happy that people are advertising these boxes as 'Kodi Boxes' as it is, they've tried stopping this but doesnt seem to be doing too well! I've see people already claiming Kodi is useless based off their experience with these boxes.

I use Kodi myself for my home theater. Its a great piece of software. Although the system I have it running on is dedicated to Kodi, has plenty of resources, ssd etc. Some things can be difficult to get your head around at first but it can also depend on the skin you are using.

As already mentioned, the apps are mostly third party and can be buggy.

go to the kodi/tv addons home page, they have a list of recomended boxes, i have a fire stick, my broadband struggles most of the time, yet i can stream a movie via kodi with the fire stick, i cannot watch the same video on kodi via windows 10

MOD: I'm closing this thread. It is allowed to talk about Kodi and Android boxes and their legal usage (though off topic for this forum), it strictly against the rules of boards to talk about using them to illegally access TV streams or pirated content.
