Salary And Role Negotiations

Due to complete a Computer Science degree soon and have been offered a full time position with a start up 3 years old that I've been working part time with for the last 9 months.

Company is doing very well with expected turn over of over 2 Million this year. I'm due to soon sit down and talk about how they see my role within the company and any package/salary they have in mind. I also see great potential for the company and a chance to work with various technology over the coming years.

I have never been in this position previously where I had to sit down and talk T&C's this week.

What kind of salary should one expect.
Whats the best way to approach if the initial offer seems very low.
I am entitled to enter the Jobs Plus scheme, should I use this as a bargaining chip.

Bearing in mind I know these guys pretty well and have a good relationship with them.

The company is flexible in that you can come and go as you like and have your own working times once you get the job done.

    Hiya,

well done on what sound like a promising start to your career.

Firstly, don't mention salary first or your expectation around it.

Indicate that you have an open mind and state that your priority is getting experience and learning new skills/technologies etc.

It seems like a cool place to work given that you can come and go as you please.

Best advice is to be reasonable and let them know this. Your aim is getting experience and to position yourself for the next step up in 18 months plus. Obviously this will entail more cash and more responsibility that goes with it.

It may be useful to sense check what your class mates are being offered and ensure that their offer is commensurate with this. However, it needs to be reflective of the market place in general. Alternatively talk to recent graduates of your course via your careers office or class network

Its all about building blocks at this stage of your career so that you have a strong foundation to reach for the higher salaries stars!

    Best of luck with it.
