go to your doctor after a crash

A general piece of advice to all those who have a little crash and think that a plaster will be all that's required for the cuts and bruises suffered. The road is a dirty dirty surface, especially Irish roads both agricultural and city lanes.

I'm on a third course of antibiotics for cuts suffered a good while back in February. I thought I'd just get away with if I applied a bit of antiseptic cream and gauze - I was studiously careful with the cuts, washing all out every night for 8 nights straight, lathered in cream and covered in very decent grade plasters. But when it appeared infected on Day 9, it was 7 days of double doses of antibiotics which rendered me useless on a bike and all the while the cuts weren't healing.

When the call came through that there was another strain of bacteria found on the swabs taken, it's resulted in another 7 days of treatment, all this with a feeling of flu like symptoms and general malaise.

Yes, this is a poor me post but don't take chances after your crash, go to a doctor, get your tablets.

Alot of the bacteria is already on you, it just needs to get in and find a weakened immune system

I couldn't agree more, I had to give in and go to doctors 5 days after crash. The pain of reopening wounds to clean them was horrendous, the extraction of a cats claw from my elbow wound was enough.....

Go STRAIGHT to Nurse even for proper cleaning of wounds.....you can make an appointment with the nurse anytime.

...and make sure your tetanus jabs are up to date (especially if racing as crashes more likely )
