Some apple devices not connecting to F2000

Hi all. This is a strange one. I have an Eir supplied F2000 router which I'm using on the Vodafone network. I updated it to the latest firmware using this guide https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/update-modem-firmware-huawei-hg659/ Everything is working perfectly except an early model iPad and an iPhone5 won't connect to the network, an iPhone6s an iPad air and all other devices connect instantly. I setup the guest network with a strong wpa password and everything connects instantly including both the iPad and the Iphone 5:confused: Any suggestions anyone?

Yes I had difficulties as well iphone 5c, I switched to 2.4g and they seem to connect but I wasn't getting the DL speeds on other devices I expected as well. I thought that it might have been neighbours and interference as I spotted a few more SSID's that were on 5g and 2.4g so I was going to change channels later to see if that was the issue

No they won't connect to either of the frequencies. I tried forgetting the network and reconnecting from scratch but the circle just keeps spinning and spinning and they never join the network. I select the guest network on either frequency and they connect instantly, very puzzling. I'll have another dig around in the router and see can I spot any differences in the settings between both networks.

Have you got something weird in the name? Set the main SSID to "TEST" & PSK to "12345678" and see if it'll connect.

I left the ssid and psk as it came on the router. The psk had a kind of rhythm that makes it easy to remember. The psk on the guest network would be more complex... I just can't understand it.

Instead of picking the network under wifi, tap other and manually enter the ssid and then psk. I don't know why it happens but used to happen to me regularly when I was with magnet and had an iPhone 4.

Tried that. The network gets a tick instead of the spinning circle but no info from the router, all the boxes are blank, so no internet. When the device is like this, on the listed devices in the router the ipad is there but it's grey. Everything else that's correctly connected is represented by a colour icon.

    Change the ssid and password

    Change the ssid and password

I'll try it later but entering the new psk, particularly on the sky boxes and a gazillion other devices is a pain in the nuts. I know I know I'm a lazy git....

Just change it once. If the iPad doesn't work, then change it back - 2 minutes work. If the iPad does work, then settle in for network change mania!!!:P

No joy guys. I tried a new ssid password combo but the same outcome. Just a tick but no info from the router.

I remember there being an issue with Apple devices and eFibre routers, probably the zyxel F1000, when eFibre was launched in 2013, something to do with IPv6 or something.... Clutching at straws here lads but it has me driven demented.

Set the 2.4 channel manually to one lower than 11

I thought about that but it's transmitting on ch6 according to my ssid sniffer and there's no other nearby network close to ch6.

Try disabling ipv6, internal and external on router?

I had a dig around the router and it's set to IPv4 only, I did notice the IPv6 dhcp server was ticked so I unticked it. I'll try the iPad later, it's being used atm.
    That didn't work either..

Your modem is on its way out.

Why do you think that? Everything else connects instantly except for two old(in apple terms) devices.

I'd also be curious as to how you deduced that.

I am assuming you have reset the network settings on the iOS devices?

Tried everything at this stage davo. Reset network settings on both devices, did a pin in the hole reset on the router, but no joy. They'll have to stick with the guest network I think because I'm all out of ideas now.

Tried using a different type of encryption on the router? WPA instead of WPA2 for example? I know it should work in WPA2 but worth a shot.

I had this problem with an iMac. Disabling IPV6 on the iMac solved the problem.

I had an issue with my Samsung GS4 when I got it first. My ancient Linksys WRT54GS (with stock v1 firmware) didn't like it when using AES encryption on WPA2, so I had to change the router setting to use TKIP and then it connected fine.
