Want to own part of a brewery?

Want to have a beer named after you?

    Need a new bottle opener?

Check out the Rye River Brewery Kickstarter

they are looking for €100k to complete their €4m investment and finalise the new brewery and enable them to enter other markets.

    Kickstarter?

    More like kickfinish imo.

    I don't think they're offering this.

receive a highly sexual-charged picture of Alan Wolfe (founder) in his jocks with your name written on his belly

Now that is funny. Highly undesirable but funny.

The bottle opener is a POS and doesn't work just FYI.

Also: €100,000 is hugely ambitious. I can't see them hitting it.

Ah no way, love my nail stick bottle opener and find it works fine. The confusion on some peoples faces when you hand it to them to open a bottle is amusing too.

Agreed though, I cant see them reaching that figure.

Have to say that, as hard it is to believe, their McGargles bottle opener is the best one I own. It opens the bottle prefect first time and does not dent the bottle top. However maybe due to the make up of the opener it may vary from opener to opener.

2 of ye? Probably bad technique on my part. I'm using it like a standard bottle opener. I find the nail head doesn't grip the bottle cap. I've the ~2013 promo one. Maybe a new model exists? :P

If they have 4m, why do they need another 100k? Is 4.1m the magic number?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Not G.R

After 21 days this has just over €1600. As predicted this is going nowhere.

that one IPA is alright, the other beers are crap & the future lineup is two ciders and a brown ale.

i don't think I will buy that 75€ McGargles branded pint glass

Yeah the rewards are pointless. They are in weatherspoons now so might generate a bit more cash.

Not only that, they're using this money for expansion into new territories. I didn't back them because I don't want McGargles being the face of Irish beer abroad. I really hate the paddy whackery branding and most of the beer in the range is uninspiring or just flat out bad. Nothing against Rye River, if had they went with their classy kingfisher logo and beers of the same quality of FBBIPA, their festival specials or even what their head brewer is actually capable of, I.e whiplash, then I would have backed them to the hilt.

Yeah it doesn't make sense to me to put something as unambitious and unrewarding for backers to kickstarter. Gimme a promising reserve / barrel aging concept with actual material rewards and we'll talk. These lads should probably take a loan / find an investor since they're not really bringing anything to the table except for expanding business.

The Francis Big Bangin' IPA is a fantastic beer.
Knock Knock Ned IPA is a good beer.
The rest of the "family" of beers are only ok.

I would consider investing in the brewery were they to offer shares or equity like the BrewDog with their Equity for Punks crowdfunding initiative.

Let's keep the discussion to the kickstarter fund and not a review of their brands

Want to own part of a brewery?
RadikAle's forthcoming scheme will be offering 25% of the company. It hasn't opened yet, but there are details here.

Generally Kickstarter is completely the wrong type of site for this type of project. Something like Linked Finance might work better.

Works better as a publicity stunt, but not if nobody buys in!

Looks like just a poor publicity stunt tbh. If they have access to 4M in finance they could probably finance the remaining 100K without too much bother.

Is there any reason why they choose a kickstarter rather than Business Expansion Scheme 2.0 aka 'The Employment and Investment Incentive (EII)'? O'Haras funded their expansion with this scheme. Although I imagine O'Hara's found it easy to get investment since their brand/product line is fantastic

I don't know why KS, but as for the EII
For State aid purposes, Ireland is divided into "assisted" and "non-assisted" areas. The current "assisted"areas are all areas of Ireland excluding Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork city and county (except for Cork Docklands).

Ye Olde BES is still allowed in the non-assisted areas. But BES is very, very formal and doesn't get media attention.
