Restoration of frame?

    My grandmother has given me a large portrait painting of my great grandparents, painted in 1909. Up to now, the portrait has hung on the same wall since painted, never touched.

    The canvas is inside a decorative timber frame, and behind glass (all original to the painting).

    The frame is black but looking closely, I can see the decorative flowers on the frame were originally gold.

    I am wondering if anyone can recommend someone in the west to restore the frame to how it would originally have looked?

    The painting looks slightly dull now, but I don’t think I could trust anyone to attempt restoring it as it is a one-off and irreplaceable. I think if the frame was cleaned up, and its glass cleaned or replaced, the painting would look a lot fresher.

    Any recommendations appreciated!

    Thanks for that, I will contact for a quote.

    Has anybody positive personal experience with any restorers? It doesn't have to be a picture frame; any timber restoration will suffice. I imagine if someone restores furniture, they can also restore a decorative picture frame.
