    hi all,
    agitated a 2 bay unit 15 days ago, took cattle out for the day. spread 3 tanks to bring down level of tank.
    so hope to get more contractor to put out more this week, question I have is, will I need to take the animals out this week while agitating? same dangers with gases?

    thanks,

    If you have to agitate again then yes you'll need to take the same precautions as you did when doing it first time round!

    It's your call OP. If we come on here and say 'work away, you'll be grand' and something happens, well it's your problem not ours, on an anonymous forum.

    Having said that, you broke the crust 3 weeks ago, any gas there was released then. Silage effluent increases the risk, some people use gypsum to bed cubicles, there is sulphur in gypsum which converts to hydrogen sulphide in slurry. Sulphuric acid is not used as a silage additive so the risks are lower than they used to be.

    It's your slurry, your cattle, your shed and your decision.

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    cheers, no fancy stuff employed here, {even though I going to look into an additive that you add to the empy/watery tank before housing that is supposed to break down the slurry better.}

    I was hoping to avoid taking a day off work midweek, but probably safety first is best approach.
    cheers.

    It will only take an hour or two out of your day to get the cattle out anyway so it's not worth the risk,better safe than sorry

    bit of a treck back to the ranch, 4 hour round trip, to let them out of the shed for couple hours. with this rain coming doesn't look like im gonna get it out this week, gonna have to invest in one of these weather remote controls you read about on the interweb...

    bales lined up infornt of them before I head off, enough to keep them going for 5-6 days normally.
