Main Exit Sewer blocked

The main exit sewer is blocked. While the smaller pit has been blocked before and easily resolved the main sewer has never been blocked here. The large sewer pit is full of sewage so I cannot see the pipes. I have identified through rummaging with a long thin pipe that there seems to be two pipes exiting the house and entering the pit but I'm not sure about the exit drain. I think it might be a hole on the bottom of the pit as there is a drop down there. However using the makeshift equipment that I have (I don't have rods) I have not been able to shove anything into that supposed exit hole. This is chaos! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If its the main that blocked, I think its the responsibility of you Local Authority ?

Are you on a housing estate or Septic Tank. ?
As said if you are on an estate the Council will sort it but will likely charge you for clearing it. It might not even be your fault.

You can resolve it yourself but you will need the use of a set of Rods.

You can get a hose for a pressure washer (like the ones LIDL sell on special every few months) that you can kinda stuff down the pipes that dilutes the waste and breaks it up making it easier for the waste to exit...might be worth investing in one.

Having said that, and on re-reading the original post....mention of a pit makes me think you're using a septic tank....so it might be time to get it emptied if you are...

Thanks for the replies - not on a housing estate or septic tank. Looks like I might have to invest in some equipment
