Looking to build a garden wall between ourselves and the neighbour. Have taken down a dead bush which was separating.

The wall from back garden wall (2m tall) to front wall 1.2m will be 25.5m in length.

From back wall to side gate will be 14.4m and we would like this to be 2m tall. With the rest of 11.1m this will need to step down to 1.2m tall to meet the front wall.

The wall is between the two houses side gardens. It will go from 1.2m on West side to 2m in East. It's never extremely windy however have been advised everything from 4" block to 6" flat to cavity.

Circa 1200 + vat for labour and materials. If there is no foundations in place, you may be adding another 1500-2500 depending on access to the site etc.

From a planning point of view you can build a wall 2m high to the rear and 1.2m high to the front without the need for planning permission. It should be capped and have a rendered finish where visable from public road or footpath (unless of course it is of a stone or brick finish)

As regards the structure of the wall, no-one here can give structural advice as it not permitted under forum rules. Best to seek advice from a local engineer.

It will cost you upward of of €5k plus Vat to get a builder to come in and do it, including the foundation, wall, piers, capping and plastering. Get structural advise from an engineer only based on the requirements of the site. Boards does not allow structural advise
