Bottom bracket needs replacing - should I race?

Just took the bike out for a quick spin this evening before my race tomorrow and noticed a clicking from the BB. When I checked later there is definitely play in the BB - almost certainly it is f****d.

Now there is no way I can get this replaced by tomorrow morning. What's the worst that can happen if I race on it and then replace it next week?

Your cranks come off and you cause a crash and someone is seriously injured or killed.

Is that plausible given that there is a tiny amount of play in the BB?

True - but is a cracked bearing likely to cause the catastrophic failure that you mentioned?

Likely? No - well not definite. Possible? More possible than if there was no play in your BB. Only you can make the final call.

Ffs race the bike, the cracks will not fall off, the play will only get worse and the fact your asking this tells me your not a1 so your race won't be too long

Possibly not if it's still got life in it yet but you asked what was the worst that could happen!

racing is risky enough - personally, i would rather people did it on bikes that were in proper working condition.
