BMW e90 - Valvetronic Motor

So, had the following light come up on my dash yesterday:

Car went into limp mode straight away, no real power available. Checked the manual, confirmed this:

Parked it up for the night. Still had the warning today so took it to a garage, they ran a diagnostic and I'm almost certain he said the problem was with the Valve Inlet Motor - I've never heard of such a thing, but maybe he meant the Valvetronic Motor (or maybe I just heard him wrong?). Something about how much air it lets in.

I was told the part alone is about €250 but I'd get a full price on Monday.

Anybody experienced anything similar before? Does that price sound typical, and how much extra am I looking at for labour?

Edit: I should add that the warning light disappeared on the way home and full power was available. Why would this happen?

    Appreciate any info, thanks.

One and the same, the valvetronic motor actuates an eccentric shaft that adjusts intake valve lift. You will also need the gaskets when replacing, as these commonly weep.

Labour is gonna cost you, as there is a bit of stripping involved, so shop around your local indy's.
