External hdd with win 10 laptop

Hi all anybody ever had any issues reading an older external hdd on a win 10 laptop :confused: rep in shop said there might be issues :confused: thinking of upgrading and have 3 external hdd about 5-8 years old all work fine on current computer but in need of a good laptop and will need to copy files from drives onto it…
