Virgin broadband issues

I got virgin broadband in my house and have been having issues with it since day 1 but can't really figure out why it is so slow. I haven't called customer support yet as I am not keen going through regular troubleshooting that I have already tried and is not working. When I run the speed test it has takes a long time to find a server but when it does I get very low ping (less than 10ms) and download speed is always 50mb+ and upload is 20mb+ so on paper everything should be fine. When browsing the internet on multiple phones or laptops the connection is really slow. My phone is faster using 3g instead of the 50+mb broadband. I have tried changing wireless channels, hard resetting, power cycling but no joy. I am considering calling and asking for a replacement router but guess it won't be that easy. Does anyone have any suggestions or troubleshooting I can try? Thanks in advance.

Have all of your tests been over wifi?
Is there a difference when connected directly to the router?

All my tests have been done over WiFi. The only thing I have connected via cable is the Xbox and that is even hit or miss in terms of connection quality.

The wireless router that Virgin (and UPC before them) supply is really terrible. A lot of people on here have similar issues, and Virgin won't replace it as they only guarantee the connection to the router (or some bull**** like that).

What I, and a lot of other people have done, is to buy your own router, but even that can have issues with setting up due the limitations Virgin put on the router.... unfortunately.

Thanks for the info. I actually downloaded an app to test the ping statistics and noticed that some of the tests have 50% packet loss which would suggest something is not right. Ill try connect the laptop wired and run a continuous ping to a website and see if I get similar results. At least that should tell me if it's a wireless issues or a overall broadband issue. Not sure which one I'm hoping for 😂
