Windshield Wiper Nightmare

Having a bit of an issue with my windshield wipers; when I cut the wiper motion on the control, it'll stop in a position where I turned them off.

Basically, I have to play around with the wipers whenever I use them, so when they pause at the bottom during a cycle for those precious split seconds, I quickly turn'em off.

It's not an issue where they'll sporadically move to the up position, or any random position as I've seen around online – they've just lost the ability to return home after they've been turned off.

Would this be a motor, fuse issue, or something else?

What type of car, how old etc.
That said, this will be the motor in a lot of vehicles.

    The wipers won't park properly.
    What car?

It's an Opel Insignia (2009); incorporating a wiper sensor – I figured it would be a common electrical fault, didn't think the make would be of major importance. If the motor houses any sort of related circuitry, that very well could be it, as it's failing to continue supplying the motor with an electrical current, hence the abrupt cut-off when wipers are disabled (just speculating).

EDIT: it's definitely a motor-related issue; the motor is being supplied with current but the internal switch that is responsible for the continuing cycle is no longer functioning, thus cutting the power to the motor cam abruptly.

Any price estimates for motor replacements (average)?

I got one for a different (renault megane) car from a breakers a few years ago. Was it 30-40 euro, something liek that? Self-fitted, took probably 40-50 mins - factor in an hour's labour if you're not fitting it yourself. Still going strong. Worth a punt, IMHO, for a part like that.

The previous generation Civic suffered from this issue, and it was fixed by removing the motor, giving it a good clean, and refitting. Might be worth considering. The replacement part was around £300.
