    Hi folks,
Parents (early 70s)are looking to change their skoda octavia for something a little higher and easier to get in and out of. They seem to have taken an interest in the Opel meriva diesel. I test drove today and it's grand. They thinking of buying new. Id be leaning towards petrol as they doing less than 20k per year but the petrol meriva is quite thirsty.
Anyone have a meriva and have opinions on them? Any alternative suggestions?
Really they are probably after a mini suv or crossover. He has taken a set on skoda so unfortunately the yeti is out of the running
    Thanks
    Mick

What about a Honda Jazz, Hyundai ix35, Toyota Verso S, Ford B-Max or Kia Soul?

I'd say the Jazz would be you low for them. A friend recommended a dascia duster but doesn't seem to be a dealer in North West?

I'd get them to look at the Jazz, they generally have a higher driving position than the likes of an Octavia and they are much better than a Meriva. New Honda HRV is available now too.

Renault Captur or Ford EcoSport might be worth a look at too. Of if they need something with a bit more space then maybe a Qashqai, Tucson or Sportage? Does it have to be brand new?

We have a 08 jazz which he has looked at..
Doubt it has to be brand new.. No Renault dealers in the north west? Googled and couldn't find any

Is the 08 Jazz a first or second generation model? The third generation Jazz was launched just late last year. Also the new HRV is worth a look at, they are a crossover small SUV similar to the Nissan Juke and Opel Mokka.

Highland Motors in Letterkenny are Renault dealers.

i have the 1.4 at the moment, it is a miser on petrol, 500k to €35, it is a tad underpowered, so the gearstick needs using until one gets used to it, i am an oap by the way, i have it since june last, not a bother from it

Miser means good or bad :) 500km for 35 doesn't sound too bad

Yeah that's what I'm thinking.. The brochure says 7.6 urban, 5 extra urban, 6 combined litres per 100km

6 is just over 47 mpg so sounds reasonable

that's combined. ie including extra urban. and it's also the inflated manufacturers figure.
what car say their "real mpg" figure is 35.

    anyway I don't have one so I don't know!
