    Hi all,
Late bloomer here ;0 just learning to drive and not that i have bought a car for the life of me i cannot get a car insurance quote, no one seems willing to quote when you have no experience, granted all my search is online so far and i know the broker seems to be the best way to go, but i would like to have an idea of the prices out there. Is there any company you know of that will quote for a 40 year old learner? with a not so new 01 car

The refusal to quote might be moreso based on the age of the car rather than your age.
A lot of insurers are loading premiums on cars >10 years old and also refusing to quote.

Its utter nonsense and pissed me off rightly that my premium went up because my car is an 04. Its in perfectly safe working order.

I know its no help, but might help explain some part of why you cant get a quote.

All of them will quote for you.

Have a read of this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057482518 and see what ages others are and the quotes they got.
Do note that insurers will pay more attention to other details than age so you need to do the legwork, ring all of the companies mentioned in that thread, good luck.

Insurers will be cautious about a mature driver who has no verifiable driving history. The concern is that somebody with a problematical driving history may be trying to re-invent themselves

^ Surely that is all readily clarifiable for the insurer? Couldn't they check up their records, PPSN's, licence numbers etc etc?

Why would they do that when they can just throw their hands in the air and charge more for the premium?

It seems that's what they do.

Are MIJAG still about these days or did they fizzle away?
