Marty McFlys self lacing shoes are now a reality:

Obviously not in the slightest bit practical, but cool that they have the technology now small enough to actually make something that would work.

Not in the slightest bit practical? They're the dictionary definition of practical. Can you imagine how much easier the lives of old people and rusty people and rigid people and pregnant people will be with these bad boys?

How heavy are the batteries? Do they really last two weeks with all the flashing lights etc on them? The "old people" that they might be mildly useful for in their current form will never be able to figure out how to recharge them, let alone figure out how to use the smart phone app to get them to lace up. The price will be several multiples of the current most expensive shoes.

They will become a more practical thing, but not yet. For now they are just a proof of concept for Nike, and exceedingly expensive fashion accessory for a Back to the Future fan.

I didn't even think of them. These bad boy's are really growing on me. Once I find an ailment that could benefit from them I'm getting that bank loan!

Been long sorted by the development of elastic laces which triathletes use for speedy transitions ;)

Easy to use in any shoe.
