What are people using and how do ye find it? Using a forcefield one this while and it seems to be on its last legs.

    Pre electronic tester here.
Stab the crow bar into the ground and slowly push the top of the bar towards the wire.
Judge how strong the spark is as it jumps the gap.

Similar method here except I use a blade of grass instead of a crow bar. It's generally handier finding a blade of grass than a bar!
I'm threatening to jump into the 21st century the whole time though.

Gallagher Smartfix here, have it years, have changed the battery in it a few times. Not cheap but it will point you straight to the fault. Wouldn't be without it

The forcefield one was only so so at finding faults. The local place are looking for 120 for a speedrite one, would the Gallagher one be pricier?

I think I paid something similar last year although I thought it was closer to 100. A few weeks later at the ploughing I happened to enquire on the Gallagher stand how much were they. €70 he said. Sickened! Ha

Long wave radio on the jeep! Drive around the fields and stop and have a look when the 'clicks' are loudest:D €120 for a fence tester??

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
