Correct - there is a bay platform at Manulla Junction however.

Regarding the Derry to Castlerock Line:

New passing loop at Bellarena to be completed soon enough.

Interesting map. What do the different colours mean?

There is a key - blue is single track, orange is 2- or 3-track, red is 4-10 tracks, black is 'no information'.

There is an oddity in the coding of OpenStreetMap where if only the line is mapped one code (track=number) is used, but if each track is mapped a different code (passenger_lines=number) is used (even on freight-only lines). This map uses the second code. ITO World used to have a track map available, but discontinued it.

There are more maps here: http://product.itoworld.com/map/group/1

Thanks. Good to see that the loop is 800-1,000 metres long. At least with that length, there is no restriction on train length and if one train is delayed, the trains can pass each other while moving.

I see they are planning on removing the loop at Castlerock, presumable so they can straighten the platform.

Strangely, I reckoned as much! Or rather black was 'not done yet'.

This map seems to show double track between Ballisodare and Sligo, surely this was singled decades ago.

Only on the immediate approach to Sligo. http://product.itoworld.com/map/231?lon=-8.49402&lat=54.22562&zoom=12&fullscreen=true

You have to consider the issue of freight trains from Sligo Yard needing to pass incoming passenger trains. Or indeed the need to allow peak passenger flows to / from Sligo, e.g. an All-Ireland - no comment on the frequency of that. :)

Technically it's a passing loop - not double track!

There is only one operational platform at Sligo - the other lines are sidings.

Map has updated, with Tralee-Mallow, Mayo-Portarlington and a few other bits showing.

By that reckoning, is Drogheda-Bray is just one big passing loop that revert to single track at either end? :)

Have you a mistake on Kerry line, an extra passing loop that's not there?

    Where?

I don't think Millstreet has a loop or was always under the impression one station before Killarney doesn't.

Edit Google Maps suggest one platform but two lines.

Two things I've noticed - there seems to be no passing loops between:
    * Claremorris, Westport and Ballina.
    * Castlerock and Derry

Victor, you really need a good hobby :)

Good work, BTW. I trust you've referred to the Network Statement.

    Of course not.

But it is officially a passing loop. It reverts to a single operational track into the station.

The other tracks are all officially sidings.

Millstreet has had a passing loop for some time.

This is a good hobby. :) Some people play Command & Conquer (whatever the current version is called) or World of Warcraft. OpenStreetMap isn't dissimilar in skillset, but at least something useful is made.

When the NTA Journey Planner was being created, the contractor actively considered using OSM as the base mapping.

    Map has updated.

It should update in a few days to include Athlone-Galway-Limerick. I' ve also added Bellarena, as it opened the other day.

I've fixed the missing bit at Mullingar.

Map has updated. I've fixed the missing bit at Craughwell.

It should update in a few days to include the rest of Cork-Dublin, Nenagh and Waterford lines.

Map hasn't updated yet, but LJ-Waterford-Cherryville added. I started the rosslare line today.

    Nearly there: http://product.itoworld.com/map/231?lon=-7.02220&lat=53.19509&zoom=7&fullscreen=true

Waterford-LJ and Rosslare-Bray have been done, just not mapped yet.

I can check this for you but I'm almost certain that Waterford isn't worked as double track anymore. Certainly it was the last part of the network to be controlled under the old Absolute Block system but this was dispensed with when the cabin was closed a couple of years ago.

Correct no longer a loop, requires reversal to rejoin the mainline.

Google Earth contains the new layout for those interested.
