Any sole trader farmers run in to any issues taxing a Navara crewcab recently? Rang Wicklow county council and she said they weren't as strict on crewcabs and employees as they once were...once vehicle was classified N1.

Just said would ask before went and bought...

Ive heard stories about lads having trouble taxing ordinary jeeps.Seems they are looking for proof of business now. I don`t know how true that is though

Went to tax a newish jeep commercial recently. I had to get a letter from revenue to say that I was registered as a farmer as well as a form for the local gards to fill out to state same. Every county seems to be a little different in terms of strictness.

Thanks... have the letter from revenue to say registered as a sole trader for the farming side of things so should be grand.... fingers crossed... genuinely only going to use it for the farm as we have a car too

Think most jeeps do around that, doubt there's any one that's much cheaper to run

    Hi Bradygaz

Sorry for being mysterious. Firstly you will not have an issue with taxing a commercial once you are a farmer and have a tax clearance cert.

Now to the navara. I had two of them. Still have one. They have a serious problem with the chassis breaking so if you are buying it I can guarantee you the chassis on a 06 reg is either welded, broken or about to break. That's why I was wondering if it was private sale or not.

I know more about these jeeps and their problems than most. Lovely jeep to drive. Gave clutch problems earlier on ie Had a dual mass flywheel that was prone to slipping and burning out. The wheel bearings go fairly regular too. A neighbour of mine had his engine go recently and not one to be got in the country as it seems to be common.{what mileage on the one you looking at}.

If you google Navara chassis cracking you will get a wealth of information. What part of the country is the jeep in as I know where alot of the cracked ones are.
    Regards.

Thats a King cab one I think. Don't know any details about it. Like I said I would google the chassis issue. They all go on the left first. Look in front of the rear wheel where the body is mounted. If the chassis goes you will be ringing a scrapper and might be lucky and get €500 for it. Welding it is ok until you have an accident. I would think you will be pulling a trailer.

I am only giving you advice. Do with it what you will. You can see I don't post often so I am not messing with you.

Best wishes with whatever you buy. Maybe let us know what you get.

Thanks for all that. . . Def always listen to advice. . Will have a think for a few days. . . Don't have money to be wasting on vanity machine so just want an old workhorse

An old workhorse with a cracked chassis wont be much good to you. Its such a big problem and no easy solution. My advice to put your mind at ease is to go to your local doe test centre and ask the lads there about them. They are looking at them every day. The problem is the steel is rotted away with rust. Only for I cant put up pics I could show you a pic of one.

If it's a workhorse and a crew cab you need then you won't go far wrong with an Isuzu. No show pony but great machines. The toyotas are super machines but are making silly money.

Have an 09 here, no issues at the moment, is it worth getting the underside sprayed to prevent this? And how much world it cost?

Another one for the dmax, will take serious abuse and are handy run.

    Hi Upstream

It seems to be bad steel and rots from the inside out. Sealing it might help or even spraying it with rust inhibitor. Look in the holes on the chassis and see is there any flaking rust in there. Keep monitoring it. Seems to be 06/07 ones at the moment that go.

Heard of a 07 Navara snap in two while reversing a trailer last month.

Steer clear would be my advice . Chassis cracks are very common in as are engines going pop. I had an 08 with 130 kms, head gasket went and was told by 3 different mechanics not to bother fixing it as it is never a success, full service history too. Replacement engine was €3800 in IVI . Decided against it and sent her to the scrapper 2 weeks ago. Place is full of them with either heads gone or broken timing chains.

Have a look at nissan-navara.net or the navara forum . Some real horror stories

If your looking for something to tow for smallish money, we bought a 05 Kia Sorento in summer 14. Had 90k kilometers and cost us under 5k. Its an EX model and will pull anything. Regularly have 5 heavy bullocks behind it. We had no bother in taxing it just had to give them the herd number in the tax office in Athlone.
