How can I find out if I'm insured?

Long story short, I said yes to insurance company broker to a renewal on Tuesday lastweek and they said they would call on Monday to remind me and to get part payment if I was going for it.

Guess what, they didn't call and I forgot until now and my insurance is up 12am tonight.

I called them and they are closed until Friday which means I'm uninsured tomorrow I think.

Or would they of continued the direct debit even though it's a bigger amount.

How can I find out, or should I just get another policy right now.

I wouldn't assume cover is in place. Your broker may be moving you to a new insurer and put a stop on your old policy. Very poor that they didn't contact you

Phoned up this morning, My old policy is over so I'm not insured and they won't/can't to anything as it's through a broker, I never had this before in all my years driving.
Why do brokers not continue cover like all others do when paying by direct debit.

My blood is starting to boil as kids and wife can't go out today or drive to work in the morning.

    Tomorrow.......there will be blood.

Heh another silly Irish insurance system fail.
Either drive uninsured like 6% of population, or don't drive at all.

If you agreed to the renewal last week, why was it left that they would call you this week to take the payment?
Anyhow OP, you forgot too! Take some personal responsibility!

Can you not get a policy online with another insurer today?

Wow, 6 % - have you got a reference for that figure?

Yes but not at the price I had.
Just have to sit in, watch football, cycle bike with kids and hope cars not stolen before Friday morning.

They take the first payment plus a bit by card then direct debit for the rest.

My responsibility is not driving an uninsured car, like I said I never had this situation before as it's my first year going through a broker, when I was with Quinn direct it's was seamless when I agreed the policy.

Yes I should of remembered to call them, but shouldn't that be their job to look after their customers when renewing.

Hang on. So presumably they were also to send out forms for you to complete and return. Were you not expecting these at any stage?
You mentioned a renewal. This was not a renewal, its a new policy from a new company. Completing and returning forms are always required on this basis.

However, what struck me most was that although you reckon "Tomorrow.......there will be blood", you are refusing to accept any responsibility for your own position. You didn't follow up with them. Take some ownership of the situation!

What's to say that they didn't try calling you but you missed it?

Now let me dumb it down.

I have one full year completed with broker NO new forms need to fill in, just payment if I'm happy with price.

Call log on phone and email empty.

Your previous post mentions "never had this situation before as it's my first year going through a broker" which to me sounds like your first experience with them.
Regardless on what you're now saying, you had no forms to fill in so what was the follow up call to be about? Had you not decided on the policy as you're now saying it was to see if " I'm happy with price"?
Still, you should have remembered to contact them. You're a grown up, aren't you?

    jgorres

Only referrence is I've seen it in few articles.
    F.e. here.

If this figure is correct, that means something is majorly wrong with car insruance system here.
