Hi, I am doing a road trip taking in a few European countries, it is a charity fundraiser and we would like to keep the supporters back home updated with regular Facebook etc.

What would be the most cost effective roaming mobile broadband solution for a 20 day trip taking in UK, France, Holland, Germany, Denmark and Norway? Internet cafes are not a runner really. Thanks.

Is anyone involved currently an Eir Mobile customer?
If you are they made some announcements this week that would work out great for you: http://www.rte.ie/news/business/2016/0311/774235-eir-roaming/

The best of that only applies to existing customers, but Meteor and new Eir customers will have access in a few weeks to plans without roaming charges.
I'd expect other networks to follow suit at some stage.
Meteor have one for 35 euro for 30 days with 1GB european data plus free calls and texts in Europe. Meteor also have a twitter sms gateway so you could possibly update a twitter feed without using data.

What countries are involved? Different providers have different roaming agreements, so picking the most suitable network isn't straightforward.

As mentioned, Meteor & Eir now have free European roaming including 1GB Internet over 30 days on their normal bill-pay SIMs. They allow tethering, so you could use a Meteor/Eir phone SIM in a dongle or tablet to to get Internet. All the countries you are travelling to have free roaming on Meteor/Eir, and you can use any of their roaming partners in these countries.

Good luck with your Charity fundraiser!
