Family member moving to Ireland from UK: JA question

Hello,

My cousin plans on moving to Ireland and we both plan to rent an apartment. I work full-time and so does he in the UK.

An apartment has popped up which is pretty much perfect, but it would mean for him to move here a few months earlier without a months rent (but he can help with the deposit).

Would be eligible to sign on for JA as soon as he gets here? I imagine he will find work within the first month, but I am planning for the worst case scenario.

It looks good. I am being fairly precautionary since I had to claim JB a few years ago, and knew of the timing conditions for that but not for JA.

If your cousin takes steps to put it in motion before he leaves the UK he will be able to claim Jobseekers Benefit here for 78 days assuming his work history makes him eligible for it. After that, if he has not found work here, he will have to prove Habitual Residence here before he can get Jobseekers Assistance. Best to become entirely familiar with what to do to prove it before he leaves the UK also as he will have to produce documentation proving that he has left his job, closed bank accounts, sold house/finished lease etc., and then prove that Ireland has become his main centre of interest, e.g., bank accounts opened, signed up for GP here, joined clubs, put down roots.
