Re: Dolly's Grove in Meath....... A private aircraft collection in Meath.

From Google Earth the one on the right looks like some sort of ex RAF fighter Jet

EDIT: Thread concerns the private airfield and the non-flying aircraft visible there.

The phot is not clear - the biplane is an Antonov AN2 or looks like it. The jet is almost certainly a trainer type - could be an early aermacchi or some sort of eastern european trainer jet. Google earth is showing what looks like a Harrier in addition to the above two.

This was discussed on here before and I think I remember reading the harrier was brought in on a truck.

can anyone share a link to google maps? I'm sure an aviation loving family wouldn't mind me doing some low passes some early sunday morning

That strip is on charts issued a few years back, I can't believe how close it is to be inside Dublin CTR I can't imagine doing a circuit without a controller in Dublin tower going

I remember reading an article a few years ago about builders and NAMA and the likes and the name Eugene Larkin was mentioned that he 'may' own that property.

I'd strongly recommend that your plan could put you into a world of grief, for a number of reasons, based on the location being close to the Dublin control zone, and the implications of going into the vicinity of an airstrip that is PPR, (prior permission required). The IAA are very likely to ask a number of uncomfortable questions of anyone that does something of this nature.

The other very good reason for not going too close is that you might end up having a close encounter of the wrong sort with radio controlled models, as there are a number of people who have permission to fly there.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Glynn's airfield guide specifically states that visitors are not welcome at Dolly's Grove, strictly by invitation only. The only airfield of some 130 in the book that has this statement.

I've heard several times on Dublin Tower frequency an N-reg TBM700 (forget the reg) on approach to this airfield from the UK so it must one of the Larkins.

Media again likes to bring up old stuff, totally non relevant.. blah blah blah
This strip has been there for years, pretty active too with a 182RG, R44 on site and a TBM700 that operate out that field.
Unfortunately owner does not want any traffic overflying the field, and as this strip is just north of Weston you'd be flying inside the Dublin CTR.

Theres also a AAIU report, few years back one of the NFC planes made an emergency landing there in EI-GSE

It's just outside the CTR, under the 1500 ft CTA.

At ease, my friend, when has an internet activist ever put his money where his mouth is?

Unusually for any location in Ireland, the Google Streetview has some areas obscured and the section closest to the runway is completely missing. I'm guessing the owner/s got in touch to remove the imagery.

It's clear on Bing Maps aerial view though Bird's Eye has a similar issue to Streetview.

That's mad, build whatever you want and as long as no one "complains" in 7 years they can do nothing about it.

The problem arises the next time you want planning permission, but the council insist that you regularise the existing development.

I work 1 km from this place, when aircraft are turning for final approach it's around this airfield, as far as I know not to much flying happens anymore just uses it for driving a sports car on, I was talking to the owner last year as I was having a drone survey some land and we were notifying him just in case
