I was thinking of asking the lads in my discussion group if they'd be interested in setting up a whatsapp group where we can all put up the prices of our inputs.

For example.... I was just thinking if I bought 10 tonnes of fertiliser and someone else was getting a price a tenner a tonne lower they would be €100 better off

Same for meal, medicines etc etc

Worthwhile exercise?? Do ye think there would be any benefit to us?

Don't really want to go the full purchasing group route...

No real difference to having say a fertiliser price watch thread up here. Purchase groups have a set of rules, they usually all tie into one supplier for each item, 30days max credit etc. No real comparison of either. Likes of a go compare/bonkers.ie website for agriculture inputs would be interesting though.

The difference is that the prices would be presumably be local prices if it's a discussion group. It would be no good to the op seeing fertiliser was a tenner cheaper in Cork if he's in donegal.

Yeah, you are thinking exactly as I am. Local guys who would be dealing with the same few fertiliser suppliers, the same few mills, oil companies etc etc.

The companies that deliver to your neighbour should also deliver to you without any quibble.

Take ordering Diesel for example. Would be handy just to check your phone to see what lads recently paid for 500L green diesel, and who was giving the best price. Save you a few phone calls

Our local lamb producer group do an oil deal each week, you phone the co-ordinater and she orders, she has got the best price of the local oil companies, it works well

it's worth the try anyway the worse thing that can happen is not all will get involved and will fizzle out it's a good way of seen if your being screwed by the supplier and it will be easy compare prices as they will all be there in front of you. Sher if it saves you a couple hundred € in the year won't it be worth it
