Can anyone advise me of how much an MRI scan costs for someone with no health insurance?

How long is a piece of string?

Gonna need more info. Location? Specialised scan centres tend to be cheaper than private hospitals. Type of MRI? They tend to charge based on the time used / expected depending on the size of the area and how many scans. Is it requiring contrast? Because that would incur the charge of a doctor.

So unless you have the treatment code for the procedure, it's impossible to guesstimate how much the procedure will cost.

The ballpark figure for a scan not requiring contrast or anaesthetic would be approx €300-350. As mentioned, clinics and hospitals will vary and the body part in question is a variable too, a full spinal MRI is going to be cost more than one of the ankle by virtue of time. There are quite a few clinics to check out- Euromedics, Santry Sports Clinic, Clane Hospital etc other than the regular private hospitals. Once you have the referral, ring around. Some hospitals will not take GP referrals, clinics tend to be less fussy but are more restricted in terms of contrast, paediatric patients etc. etc.

Sorry for taking so long to get back- I was hoping that resting would eleviate the problem- but no dice.

It will be in Dublin that I will be looking for a scan and it will be on my knee as, from a physio looking at it, it appears to be damaged cartilege.

Do I need a doctors referral first or is it cheaper to go straight to a private MRI clinic? I also dont have health insurance

You need a doctors referral and the cost is €200-400 depending on site and complexity.

Discuss it with your GP and there may b other better options although we cant give advice here on medical treatment or recommendations.

Be cheaper to get the bus to Limerick by the sounds of Dublin prices! Vary between 150 to 200 in Limerick

I am being charged for 3 MRI scans by Affidea Kilkenny for ankle, foot and shin?

Is that fair? I would have thought that lower leg MRI would be one scan not three...
