A reaction to the bad press on some of the sheds on there?

Yes no idea, I've heard ads on the radio for it. I checked the normal Donedeal site and there doesn't seem to be any such selection.

i googled it and nothing came up. they're talking up these cars in the ads but I'm not sure that it actually means anything

There is a Featured Dealer link on the main site with 3 cars from a dealer and they rotate to other dealers, is this it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,528 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

that's been going for a while.

Probably another way of earning an extra buck from sellers who are willing to pay extra. DoneDeal is an absolute minefield. Sometimes I feel like Adverts is better since you can at least check the seller's feedback and see if they are selling lemons without having to go and have a look...

I was wondering to but assumed it was a way to counteract the bad press of the rubbish being sold on there and the fact they do fûck all about it in general.

It's nothing to do with the cars as such. The advertiser pays extra money to have their car displayed at the top of the search results. €15 for 3 days or something like that.

The spotlight cars at the top of the page. It's Expensive for 3 days and if I were them I wouldn't advertise it the way they are. It's like your guaranteed to get a good car the way there talking in the ad. I've seen a few sheds in that spotlight section.

I agree completely. Totally misleading the way they are advertising it. Almost as bad as the Hyundai ad on the radio :pac:

Whats with yhe hyundai ad george ? Believe everything u hear ??

I did a search for it myself recently after hearing the adverts.

They make it sound like DoneDeal have created a new website or subsection for more prestige cars rather than old bangers.

Very misleading, suggesting that every car on their wbsite is a 'Select' car.

They were claiming that they make every part of the car themselves. Although advertising standards must have had a word with them because now they have revised the wording to "we manufacture every key component ourselves"

    Which is still clearly nonsense.

    Ireland = scammers paradise.

Donedeal is just the current vehicle of choice.

Donedeal's answer to Ryan Air's priority boarding?

I think it has to do with the new tablet+phone friendly format, harder to navigate and needs a lot of scrolling compared to the old version.
This is just another way of advertising Donedeal, Select is just a way that they are using to promote the site.
The amount of listings are down by a huge percentage compared to the old site, I can see by the motorcycle ones alone that they have nearly halved in comparison to what they used to have.

    Straight from the horses mouth
    Hi Colm,
Thanks for contacting. DoneDeal Select Cars are all cars on DoneDeal priced at €10,000 and over - this is a selection of both private sellers as well as dealers, however at that price range there would be more dealers cars included.
Buying from a dealer can offer an extra security of including a warranty which some customers prefer.

Regardless of who you buy your car from, we would recommend you follow our top tips to ensure you get the best and safest deal:

What they should have done is awarded a reputation system for car sellers where you got positive or negative feedback from your sale and could display this onscreen.

Exactly. We should suggest it to them, that should stop scammers as well.

    That is essentially Adverts.ie!

What I would like to see on Adverts.ie is an ability to disable comments, similarly to YouTube. I'm sure sellers would be more keen on using it because it would remove the low ballers offering 1/4 of what the car is worth and also the stupid swap comments.

I was selling something on Adverts a while back and I was offered to swap for a kids motocross suit, helmet and gloves

I'm sure it happens but sure in the long run you would have mostly positives anyway.

I don't think I've ever successfully sold anything on adverts
