I've recently decided to come to the dark side (or light side) and get a macbook. I saw a refurbished 13" macbook air priced pretty reasonably. For what I use my laptop for 4gb should be enough, especially on a mac. However, I plan to have this long term since its so pricey. My only worry is, is 4gb future proof. I mean, i'm assuming apple will update its operating system in that time and i'm worried it wont support 4gb. So would I be better off with 8gb... or is it unnecessary?

I'd say 8GB all day every day - the RAM is not upgradeable and in 2,3,4 years you'll be crying out for it.....

Get 8GB. You will be seriously restricted down the line if you don't.

Thanks guys, I figured as much. A 8gb will save me from having to upgrade (hopefully) in the near future and save me money in the long run.
