Cover letter mentions family member is a politician

Currently applying for a part time portion advocating on behalf of people with disabilities. I got a CV cover letter done up by my local jobs club. They know my background and mentioned in the cover letter that a family member was a local county councillor. They were basically trying to convey that this would make me familiar with advocating as I had a 'solid background' since childhood. I don't think this has a place on a cover letter somehow and night remove it. Does anybody know what I could put in its place?

Keep the solid background, just don't name the family member or the specific council.

I can't see how your family member being a councillor would give you any advantage.

At most I would suggest that you put in that your family have been actively involved in the community working to aid others throughout your life.

Some organisations would see what is currently there as an inherent threat/canvassing, I've worked in organisations (particularly public sector) where this would be viewed negatively.
