Intend to hand in my notice soon at work.

I have two weeks holidays due to me. Is it normal to work the notice and take the holidays as pay or do you take the last few weeks of notice period off?

Depends on local custom. My last two places of employ, excess holidays were paid in lieu and the notice period was worked.

Opposite experience for me - the effective notice period was reduced, as the company didn't want to spend any more on salary than necessary. It'll depend not only on the company, but also on how necessary it is to have you there for as long as possible. Either way, it's their decision so just think about how you want to phrase it, in order to get the outcome you want.
