Hyundai I30 1.4

I have a Fabia MkII 1.4 petrol at the moment. I can't get to like it, just feels cheap compared to the MkI. Thinking about getting an I30 1.4, trading in the recent one, saw few low mileage example (something wrong with them?) or something decent but not big up to 9k. (Saw an Ibiza estate 1.6D, going for 10k) I don't do more than 12-14 kms per year, so maybe no need for diesel.

Anyone buying the petrol i30 post 08 could have bought a diesel for similar money but didn't. I wouldn't find low mileage suspect.
Obviously a stamped verifiable service history is key.

    Thank you!
Or would be a diesel same money? Would be the I30 recommended? Looks a bit bland but still not a bad looking car. I know, one of the well mentioned car here is the Civic 1.8, maybe it'd be an overkill for me, the shape not as practical either.

We have a civic 1.8 and an i30 diesel on the family fleet and the civic is far more practical. Better shaped boot, and the rear seats fold up like cinema seats if you need to carry akward items without folding the seats down. Boot is huge too.
They are pricey though. Your money would go further in an i30, but overall the civic is a nicer all round package IMO. MPG on the 1.8 is very good and it has cost me nothing outside of basic servicing. The i30 in comparison is harder on drop links, bushings etc, but it does have bigger wheels.

You are not making my decision easier! Having bought the Fabia not a long ago, I'm going to lose money on it anyway, so budget wise my option should be the I30. (The Civic is a nice car too, there must some pulling power with the 1.8!) Thanks for your input!

The civic can be made go fast, but being a petrol, you have to give it the revs to get the best results, It's not a sports car at 140bhp, but it has a useful amount of power. The i30 being diesel has a lot more mid-range power, so it's actually much easier for overtaking, say from 40mph, but on paper it's 3 seconds slower to 60mph and down 25bhp.
    Apples and oranges I suppose.

If you're ok with the size of the Fabia, then look at the Polo and Ibiza. Both are more pleasant than the Fabia, and the 1.2 TSI is a lovely engine.

Wasn't there chain problems on the 1.2 TSI up to 2012? Cheap chain, plastic tensioners, etc causing very early rattling and there was no cure for it. I know, none of the cars perfect out there but if the engine is troublesome that's a big red flag for me.
